Long Distance Adventure Cyclist
Huge relief – spoke to Ron and he sounded a lot better – he was in a pretty bad place yesterday and had a tough time. He broke 4 spokes in his wheel and could not get help from anyone – he tried to wave down some passing trucks but I guess it’s the world we live in – people simply drove past. Finally a truck stopped with two Indians, now living in Australia. Ron says they were delightful people – so helpful and kind. They were so impressed with Ron’s adventure. they took photos of him and Ron took of them as well – so thank heavens for these kind Samaritans!
He broke down in Nundroo and these kind people took him all the way to Ceduna to have the wheel repaired then he had to return to Nundroo which is where he will be spending the night and will resume his journey tomorrow. He was about to go for some supper. So he covered an area of 500 ks getting his bike repaired. He needed a special spanner so that too slowed thinks up but all’s well and he sounds upbeat and ready to continue. There is another guy at the roadhouse who is cycling from Adelaide to Perth -but he is traveling with a full ‘entourage’ and support group! Not nearly as challenging as Ron’s solo journey. He plans to cycle to a roadhouse in Penong tomorrow and sleep there. Sadly still no coms so he is reliant on call boxes – fortunately they all appear to be in good working order and not destroyed! He has seen the sea a few times as he is cycling parallel to the coast.
He apologises for causing any concern to family and friends and sends love and ‘all the best’.
He will be in touch with everyone as soon as he has coms.
