I have just arrived at La Verne, Los Angeles, California, and completed the first official day of my trip.

I had a really tough first day. I cycled just over 100 km. It was all in a very built up areas,  lots of traffic lights. I didn’t want to ride so far, but there was nowhere to sleep, so I pushed through to here.  I’m now in my tent. I will set out tomorrow to cover some more ground, and expect to be travelling in some mountainous areas.

I had to get more bags for my bike, to balance out the load between the front and back. You will see the new bags in the pics of me with Marilyn Monroe. That’s a life size statue of her, in her well known pose!

I will keep you all posted. Wish me luck for day two.
