The Stray Dog

Long Distance Adventure Cyclist

After 3 years in the pound it’s time for a new challenge!

I have chosen to cycle across Australia – a distance  of approx 4500 kilometers from Perth to Sydney.

This will take me thru varied conditions including the very desolate Nullarbor Plains – which borders on the Great Victoria Desert.

I plan to take 30 days to complete this epic solo journey!

To achieve this, I will need to do 150 kilometers per day  – on average. This means 7-8 hours per day in the saddle!

which will require an average speed of 22 kilometers per hour!

What makes this journey a huge challenge for me is that it truly is totally solo – with no back- up support.

My previous round-trip cycle to Cape Town was a fund-raiser for the SPCA.

However, as I will be 66 years old when I complete this epic journey, my motivation for doing this is to encourage people of all ages to keep active and to challenge themselves in some way or another.  Be audacious!

Because of my love of the environment and nature, I’m excited to be able to share this passion with you via the blog.

I appreciate your support each time you ‘blog in’!

I look forward to this trip with a great deal of excitement and ofcourse a level of apprehension!  There will be no luxuries – just my tent , my bike and of course food and water, water and more water!

So, until we meet again on the blog , bye-bye now and take care.
