What a great challenge

As planned Ron got going early and beat the bad weather and got to a very quaint town called Cowell and caught the ferry across to Wallaroo where he spent the night and then went on to Port Wakefield ( not sure if he perhaps meant Port Victoria???) Where he again spent a night –… Continue reading What a great challenge

Welcome Back

After 3 years in the pound it’s time for a new challenge!   I have chosen to cycle across Australia – a distance  of approx 4500 kilometers from Perth to Sydney.   This will take me thru varied conditions including the very desolate Nullarbor Plains – which borders on the Great Victoria Desert.   I… Continue reading Welcome Back

USA on my sights…

I am in the throes of planning my new trip. By my 70th birthday I want to be on US soil, and starting my epic trip across the USA. There is so much to do before hand, but the lure of the open road and new places is strong!   Keep track of my preparations,… Continue reading USA on my sights…

Update from Port Lincoln

Had a very brief call from Ron – he sounds more upbeat and managed to get to Elliston. He was very excited about seeing 11 LIVE kangaroos on the road with him as he cycled. He was camping at a roadhouse owned by a very pleasant hard-working ex- south African couple. He enjoyed chatting to… Continue reading Update from Port Lincoln

United Kingdom – May 2016

This was my most challenging trip with regards to the weather conditions. Despite travelling in the UK Summer, it was still bitterly cold and wet! I travelled the full length of the UK, from John O’ Groats in Scotland down to Land’s End in southern UK. 1400kms.

The trip begins

Ron is half way to his destination, having made it to Dubai overnight. He is currently on the plane to Los Angeles.   He wanted me to share this quote with you, ” I am in the constant quest for the elusive, indefinable ‘something’…” Thought provoking, specially on Ron’s 70th birthday!   I will post… Continue reading The trip begins

The Long Road

There is pleasure and peace in being solitary on the road. I can hear only my own breath and the ambient sounds – birds, animals, the wind passing me. There is much for me to see, but after a while, I turn into myself, and reflect on my experiences and my life. The lack of… Continue reading The Long Road

The Eagle Has Landed!

Ron has arrived safely in Los Angeles! He arrived mid afternoon yesterday, around 1am our time today. He is safe and sound, and his bike is fine too. He has however caught a cold, and says he is feeling poorly. He says that the two long stretches in the planes (Durban to Dubai, then Dubai… Continue reading The Eagle Has Landed!

The Countdown Begins…

Its been a busy few weeks, but things are starting to come together. My flight is booked for May, my visas are secured and I’ve started packing!   I found this photo of me competing in the Argus in 2007. Can’t believe it was ten years ago! That was when I was doing competitive racing.… Continue reading The Countdown Begins…
